Our roots are deep in southwest Nebraska. In 1908 Grant Phillips started in the auction business. He had practiced selling bits, bridles and harness.. anything in the barn or on the farmstead. His first sale went well, and he continued selling at private sales as well as Grant, Sutherland, North Platte and other area sale barns. His son Gerald joined the business in 1937 after serving his country in the US Army in Germany. Gerald added Real Estate sales and appraisals to the business along with a long time friend and partner, Blaine Farrar from Curtis. Phillips and Farrar were on many area sale bills for nearly fifty years. In 1984, Lynn Swanson joined the firm and began to learn the trade.
Education was always a priority for the company. Real Estate brokerage licenses and Appraisal Credentials were important in meeting the varied needs of our customers. Lynn is a licensed Nebraska Real Estate Broker and a Certified General Nebraska Real Property Appraiser.
Networking with other auctioneers was also an essential part of the business. Gerald and Blaine both served as past presidents of the Nebraska Auctioneers Association and Lynn has served as a past member of the Nebraska Auctioneers Association Board of Directors. In 2004, Blaine Farrar; and in 2005 Gerald Phillips were each named to the Nebraska Auctioneer's Hall of Fame for their service to the Auction Industry and Community development in Rural Nebraska.
In 1982-84 Gerald and Blaine retired from their active careers. Lynn Swanson took the reins and renamed the business 4 Star Auction Service and Swanson Real Estate Agency. The name changed but we continue the tradition of reputable service for our clients and customers.
4 Star Auction and Swanson Real Estate are located at 201 South Lincoln, in Wallace, Nebraska where our indoor auction barn provides a comfortable year around sales facility. Our computerized auction system allows for a fast and accurate accounting of all transactions as well as speedy check in and out.
4 Star Auction also has a portable computerized office for on site auctions. Our mobile auction topper allows us to provide the same reliable service at even remote locations.
